Secretagogues
Secretagogues are substances that stimulate the endocrine system to increase hormonal secretions
Secretagogues are the only efective way to increase the levels of HGH without injections
How Secretagogues Work
There are two peptide hormones that act in concert toe increase or decrease HGH output from the pituitary gland. These hormones are Somatostatin (SS) and Growth Hormone-Releasing Hormone (GHRH).
Somatostatin acts at the pituitary to decrease HGH output, it is an HGH release inhibitor.
The amino acid L-Arginine increases HGH by decreasing Somatostatin release from the hypothalamus.
Reducing Somatostatin increases HGH.
GHRH acts at the pituitary to increase HGH output, it is an HGH release stimulant.
GABA, L-Glutamine, L- Glycine, L-Lysine, L-Ornithine & B-3 (niacin) raise HGH by increasing GHRH levels.
Increasing GHRH increases HGH.
Together these hormones regulate, in pulsatile fashion, elevate the level of HGH you have floating around in your body.
According to a 1981 study by Italian researcher, Dr. A. Isidori, M.D., and his associates at the University of Rome, the combination of 1,200 mg of L-Lysine and 1,200 mg of Arginine Pyroglutamate in 15 male volunteers between 15 and 20 was 10 times more effective than taking Arginine alone.
Arginine Pyroglutamate must be used with L-Lysine for the synergistic secretagogue HGH Release.
L-Arginine & L-Lysine compete for the same receptor in the Anterior Pituitary thus are not effective when used together.
In a 1995 study by Thomas C. Welbourne of Louisiana State University College of Medicine in Shreveport L-Glutamine proved to be an exceptional HGH releaser. Welbourne showed that a surprising small oral dose two grams of glutamine raised growth hormone levels more than four times, compared with subjects given a placebo. Even more exciting, age did not diminish the response, at least in this study of volunteers ranging from 32 to 64 years of age.
Many nutrients have been shown to increase growth hormone in both young and old subjects. The amino acids Arginine and Ornithine have been used for a number of years to enhance production of growth hormone since they were first popularized by Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw in their book, " Life Extension: A Practical Scientific Approach".
An accepted, and widely used, medical test for the function of the pituitary gland is the administration of specific amino acid ( L-Arginine) via IV. The response, biological activity, of the pituitary is measured by radioreceptor essay (RRA, somatomedin induction) & measurement of serum HGH & Insulin Growth Factor 1 response levels.
Bottom line is that a specific amino acid (L-Arginine) increases HGH levels in the blood
Another powerful GH releaser is GHB (gamma hydroxybutyrate), a naturally occurring substance found in every cell of the human body, including the brain. A Japanese study of GHB found that a dose of 2.5 grams given intravenously to six young healthy men increased their levels of growth hormone nine fold within 30 minutes, and that they rose to 16 times over baseline levels within one hour! The stimulation of growth hormone no doubt accounts for its reputation among bodybuilders as one of the best fat burning, muscle building compounds. (Note: Among the side effects associated with the use of large dose GHB are drowsiness and muscle spasms).
GHB is not "available over the counter" in the US but GABA, its precursor, is.
The most recent research shows that whatever causes the decline of growth hormone; it is neither irreparable nor permanent. William Sonntag, professor of physiology, and his colleagues at Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston Salem, NC, has just completed an experiment showing that the decline in growth hormone secretion with age is reversible. Old rats (like old people) have a decline in the bursts of growth hormone secreted. But when Sonntag took old rats (26 months) and restricted their caloric intake, growth hormone secretion came back after two months.
These facts are the basis for multiple amino acid supplementations, one affects production, and one affects stopping production, one affects insulin levels. Combining amino acids & nutrients with timing of supplementation results in synergy.
